The SES Pipeline Group
Commited to Technical Excellence
The pipeline system in the United States has over 280,000 miles of high-pressure gas pipelines, over 170,000 miles of oil and products pipelines and many thousands of
miles of lower pressure local distribution gas lines. The challenge of minimizing leaks in such a large system is a large task.
SES has performed extensive research into preventing these leaks, determining causes of leaks, and providing technical resources to the pipeline community.
Some of the in-house resources frequently used by the SES staff in serving industry include:
Experimental testing to simulate field conditions
Analysis using classical mechanics
Computer-simulated fluid modeling
Structural integrity assessments using Finite Element Analysis
Fitness for Service Evaluations
Integration of existing Codes and Standards
Product and system evaluation using existing SES experience and data
